On August 10, 2023, the body of 22-year-old Jeraun William Spencer was discovered in a wooded area off McKinney Road in Buncombe County, North Carolina. The Buncombe County Sheriff's Office initiated a homicide investigation, determining that Spencer had been fatally shot while inside a vehicle traveling along Haywood Road in West Asheville during the early morning hours of August 10.
