Cequan Lenard Scales, a 25-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on February 10, 2019, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Born on May 9, 1993, to Tarror D. Scales and Roderick L. Riley, Cequan was known for his caring and charismatic personality. He attended Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools and earned his GED in 2012. Cequan was a beloved son, brother, and friend, remembered for his protective nature and warm heart.
On the night of his death, Cequan was found with a
gunshot wound in the parking lot of Absolute Ultra Bar & Lounge at 4218 N Liberty St. The incident occurred around 2:40 a.m. as patrons were leaving the bar during closing hours. An altercation broke out, leading to gunshots being fired, and Cequan was struck. He was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into Cequan's death led to the arrest of two suspects, Gregory Allen Thompson Jr., 23, and Danny Lamore Ford, 25, both of Winston-Salem. They were charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The suspects were apprehended on Tuesday following the incident and were formally charged with murder on Thursday. Both Thompson and Ford were held in the Forsyth County Detention Center without bond and were scheduled to appear in court on March 7.
