Evard Earl Artis, a 63-year-old man from Wilson, NC, was tragically found shot to death in his front yard on the morning of March 25, 2019. Police were called to his home on Stadium Street around 1:30 a.m. after responding to a shots fired call. Despite efforts to revive him, Artis was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Artis' death led to the arrest of two individuals: Jimmie Ray Turner Jr., 57, of Kenly, and Ashley Nichole Harrell, 30, of Stantonsburg.
Both were charged with first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon. According to police, the suspects broke into Artis' home and stole items worth approximately $30 before shooting him. The motive for the crime was believed to be related to the robbery.
