The incident occurred at approximately 12:45 p.m. at Oakwood Forest Mobile Home Park on U.S. 29 North. Thomas was shot and subsequently transported to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

On April 28, 1996, he accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized into the fellowship of Shiloh Baptist Church. Thomas is survived by his wife, Keysha Cobb Thomas, and their children, Nekeywan, NyLeke, and Nykeria.
