Marcus Moore, a 24-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on June 21, 2019, in Statesville, North Carolina. The incident occurred in the late afternoon, around 5:00 p.m., when Marcus was found with gunshot wounds behind a home on Deaton Street. Despite being transported to a local hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. Marcus was a high school graduate and had played football during his time at Statesville Middle School.
The investigation into Marcus Moore's death led
to the arrest of two suspects, Azontay Vontavious Sherrill and Quinton Que'shon Kasey. Both individuals were charged with multiple offenses, including second-degree murder and attempted murder. The Statesville Police Department obtained warrants for their arrest shortly after the incident. Sherrill was apprehended on June 22, 2019, while Kasey surrendered to the authorities the following day.
The legal proceedings culminated in December 2022, when both Sherrill and Kasey pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and attempted murder. They were each sentenced to 180-220 months in prison for their roles in the crime. The case highlighted the tragic loss of a young life and the subsequent pursuit of justice for Marcus Moore and his family.
