Brendan Robert Hurley, a 23-year-old man from Raleigh, NC, was tragically killed on July 16, 2019. Hurley and his friend, Anthony James McCall, 21, were reported missing on July 17, 2019. Hurley lived in Franklinton, while McCall resided in Raleigh. Their bodies were discovered in Johnston and Nash counties, respectively. Hurley's remains were found off Covered Bridge Road in Johnston County, and McCall's remains were located in Nash County.
The autopsy report revealed that Hurley had been shot at least six times, including in the head, neck, chest, left arm, and left leg. Four bullets were found with his remains.
The Raleigh Police Department arrested two men in connection with the homicides: Ryan Craig Veach, 19, and James Daishawn Robinson, 21. Both suspects were charged with two counts of first-degree murder and were held in the Wake County Detention Center without bond. A third suspect, a 16-year-old juvenile named Andrew Francis Carroll, was charged with acting as an accessory after the fact to murder. Carroll was accused of driving Hurley's car from a Zebulon location to a scrap metal recycling center on Garner Road in Raleigh, where police discovered it.

Hurley met McCall while working together at Stewart's Bistro in Wake Forest, and the two became close friends. Family members and friends gathered at a memorial service for Hurley in Wake Forest, where they remembered him as a loving and devoted son.
The police investigation into the homicides involved extensive efforts by detectives and patrol officers. The bodies were located through investigative means, but the department declined to comment further on the specifics of the investigation. The motive for the killings remains unclear, and the police have not released the causes of death for either victim.
