Christian Malik Estes, an 18-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on August 31, 2019, in Charlotte, North Carolina. The incident occurred at a college party held at the 49 North Student Apartments near the University of North Carolina at Charlotte . During the party, an argument broke out, leading to gunfire that resulted in life-threatening injuries for four individuals, including Christian Malik Estes.
Despite being rushed to the hospital, Estes succumbed to his injuries.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department launched an investigation into the shooting, which left three other people seriously injured. The police determined that the individuals shot were innocent victims and had no involvement in the argument that led to the gunfire. Approximately 60 people attended the party, but only a few have come forward to provide information to the authorities.
Christian Malik Estes' mother, Latoya Woodward, made a public plea for anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist in solving her son's murder. She expressed her forgiveness towards the perpetrator and emphasized the need for accountability. Despite the ongoing investigation, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.
Estes was remembered as a motivator and a loyal individual who loved cars and aspired to own a car lot. He left behind a 10-month-old daughter and three younger siblings. The CMPD continues to seek information from the public to bring justice to Christian Malik Estes and his family.
