Adam Thomas, a 33-year-old man from Lumberton, North Carolina, was found dead on October 15, 2019, alongside his brother Frank Thomas, aged 34. The two brothers were discovered in their home on Marigold Lane. The cause of death for both men was multiple gunshot wounds. The Robeson County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the cause of death, and their bodies were sent to Raleigh for autopsies.
The investigation into the deaths of Adam and Frank Thomas was conducted by the Robeson
County Sheriff’s Office Homicide and Criminal Investigation Divisions. On October 18, 2019, Derrick Deshawn Hunt, a 19-year-old man, and an unidentified 13-year-old juvenile were arrested in connection with the murders. Both suspects were charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Hunt faced additional charges of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and robbery with a dangerous weapon. Hunt was held without bond at the Robeson County jail, while the juvenile was detained at a regional juvenile detention center.
The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office emphasized the importance of public assistance in solving the case, urging anyone with information to come forward. Sheriff Burnis Wilkins highlighted the connection between the murders and drug-related activities in the county, noting that this case was another example of the consequences of youth involvement in drug offenses. Despite the isolated nature of the incident, the sheriff stressed that no one deserved to be killed in such a manner.
Adam Thomas had a history of legal troubles, including charges of misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon, assault by pointing a gun, felony breaking and entering, larceny, and intent to manufacture a controlled substance. He had served five months for these charges. Neighbors described the brothers as troublemakers, often seen shooting guns and associating with the wrong crowd. However, Frank Thomas was remembered more fondly by some residents, who described him as a good person who wouldn’t hurt anyone.
