In the autumn of 2023, the life of 49-year-old Gwaun Frierson, a male truck driver, was tragically cut short on October 4th in an unforeseen turn of events near Davis, Oklahoma. His death was the unintended consequence of a police pursuit that escalated into a roadside gunfight.
The incident began when a Cleveland County deputy attempted to pull over 25-year-old Cameron Jenkins for a traffic violation.
Jenkins responded by opening fire on the deputy, striking him in the neck and shoulder. The injured deputy returned fire, and in the ensuing exchange of bullets, a stray round tragically struck Gwaun Frierson, who was in his truck nearby and uninvolved in the altercation.
Following the shootout, Jenkins fled the scene, sparking a week-long manhunt. Authorities eventually located Jenkins, who was found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Carter County District Attorney later announced that the deputy who fired the fatal shot would not face charges. The District Attorney's office concluded that Cameron Jenkins was ultimately responsible for the chain of events that led to the tragic death of the innocent bystander, Gwaun Frierson.
