Detavius Quatae Bruton, a 22-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on April 24, 2020, in Asheboro, North Carolina. The incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. on Coleridge Road, where Bruton was shot and later pronounced dead at Randolph Health. The shooting also resulted in injuries to three teenagers: Azion Tremaine Fair, 18, Jemen Davone Portis, 18, and a 15-year-old from Montgomery County.
The motive for the shooting appears to be robbery, as multiple different caliber
firearms were used during the incident. The Asheboro Police Department responded to the scene and began an investigation, which led to the arrest of three suspects. Azion Tremaine Fair, 18, and Derek Walls Jr., 24, both from Asheboro, were charged with murder. Jemen Davone Portis, 18, was also arrested and charged with murder shortly after the incident.
The investigation revealed that there were other individuals present at the time of the shooting, and the police are working to identify everyone with information about the incident. The suspects are currently being held at the Randolph County Jail without bond.
