On November 11, 2024, at approximately 7:30 a.m., Asheboro police responded to reports of an armed robbery at 64 Skillz, a gaming center located on East Dixie Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered 39-year-old employee and U.S. Navy veteran, David Matthew Davis, deceased inside the establishment from an apparent gunshot wound.
Surveillance footage captured images of two suspects, both dressed in hooded jackets and face masks, entering the business.
They fled the scene in a gray 2013 Toyota Avalon, reported stolen, bearing North Carolina license plate LAH-9992. The vehicle had noticeable damage to both rear bumper corners and the driver's side rear quarter panel.
On November 22, 2024, the suspect vehicle was located abandoned in Durham by local police. Despite this development, the two suspects remain unidentified and at large. David Davis, born on December 2, 1984, in Siler City, NC, was a 2003 graduate of Southwestern Randolph High School and proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He is survived by his wife, Megan Luck Davis, their three children, his parents, and siblings. A private funeral service was held, with visitation on November 19, 2024. Memorials were suggested to Our Daily Bread in Asheboro.
