Roman Kichigin, a 15-year-old boy, tragically lost his life on May 18, 2020, in Charlotte, North Carolina. The incident occurred in the parking lot of an apartment complex near Milton Road in east Charlotte. Roman, who was of Caucasian descent, was shot during an attempted armed robbery. The shooting took place just after 5 p.m., and Roman tried to drive away from the scene.
However, he was found by investigators in a crashed car and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department quickly launched an investigation into the incident. Less than 24 hours after the shooting, 18-year-old Clifton Stanfill was arrested and charged with murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon. Stanfill, who had been released from the Mecklenburg County Jail on February 26 for a similar armed robbery charge, was taken into custody without incident. The police have not released any additional details or motives in the case.
Roman's death marked the 34th homicide in Charlotte for the year 2020 and the second in the east Charlotte area within a month. The community and law enforcement have been working together to address the ongoing violence in the area. Roman's family, including his three siblings, were devastated by the loss. A GoFundMe campaign was set up by a family friend to support the family during this difficult time. Roman had a keen interest in cars and the automotive industry, making his untimely death even more heartbreaking for those who knew him.
