Jawuan Tariq Pressley, a 22-year-old African American male, died on August 18, 2020, from injuries sustained in a shooting that occurred on August 16, 2020, in West Charlotte, North Carolina. The incident took place around 9:50 p.m. on Reid Avenue, off of West Boulevard. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting and found two individuals with gunshot wounds.
MEDIC transported both victims to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, and one was pronounced dead upon arrival. A third gunshot-wound victim, Jawuan Tariq Pressley, was taken to the hospital by a third party and succumbed to his injuries two days later.
The shooting resulted in the deaths of three individuals: Jawuan Tariq Pressley, 29-year-old Keith Fitzroy Rivera, and 28-year-old Kawon Markus Hoover. The suspects, whose identities remain unknown, fired multiple shots at a group of people, hitting Jawuan, Keith, and Kawon. Keith and Kawon were rushed to the hospital by paramedics with life-threatening injuries. Kawon died at the hospital, and Keith died hours later.
The investigation into the triple homicide is ongoing, with Charlotte-Mecklenburg detectives actively working on the case. Authorities have urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the Homicide Unit or leave information anonymously with Crime Stoppers.
