Jalen Mack Claboine, a 19-year-old male from Winston-Salem, NC, tragically died on September 15, 2020, from an apparent gunshot wound. He was found lying in the street on Indiana Avenue, and despite immediate medical attention, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Claboine was a passenger in a vehicle that was involved in an encounter on Gilmer Avenue, where he sustained the fatal injury. The driver of the car fled the scene and ended up on Indiana Avenue, where emergency services were called.

The Winston-Salem Police Department launched an investigation into Claboine's death, which was determined to be a homicide. The investigation revealed multiple crime scenes, including the locations on Gilmer and Indiana Avenues. Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division took over the case, and it was reported that Claboine's death marked the 22nd homicide in Winston-Salem for the year 2020.

In connection with the investigation, 19-year-old Jeremiah Nickerson was later sentenced for his role in the incident. Although Nickerson did not shoot Claboine, he was found guilty of accessory after the fact to first-degree murder. His phone records showed that he had possession of the gun before and after the shooting, and he attempted to dispose of the weapon afterward. Nickerson was sentenced to 10 to 14 years in prison for his involvement in the murder as well as additional drug trafficking charges.

The case remains under investigation, and authorities continue to seek information from the public to bring all responsible parties to justice. Claboine's death has left a significant impact on his family, friends, and the community, who continue to mourn his loss and seek closure through the ongoing legal proceedings.
