On October 13, 2020, Willard Dement Jr., a 38-year-old male, was tragically killed in a shooting incident in Henderson, North Carolina. The Vance County Sheriff's Office responded to a call about multiple shots fired at the intersection of David and Main streets around 8 p.m. Upon arrival, deputies found Willard Dement Jr. deceased, along with two other victims, Misty Boyd, a 42-year-old woman, and a juvenile girl.
Misty Boyd was airlifted to Duke Medical Center for further treatment, while the juvenile was treated and released from Maria Parham Hospital.
The suspect in the shooting, Dequante Jabree Terry, a 24-year-old male, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and attempted armed robbery. Terry was held without bond on the murder charge and given a $750,000 bond for the other charges. His next court date was set for October 20, 2020. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and authorities are seeking additional information from the public.
The incident occurred just two days after another shooting in Henderson, which left one person dead and two others injured. However, authorities have stated that the two incidents are not related.
