Nicholas Pike, a 23-year-old male from Whitsett, North Carolina, tragically passed away on December 13, 2020. Nicholas, known affectionately as "Nick," was a beloved member of his community, remembered for his love of the outdoors and his generous spirit. He was born on September 17, 1997, in Guilford County to Kerry Len Pike II and Shelby Leigh Simmons Pike.
Nick graduated from Eastern Guilford High School in 2015 and enjoyed riding 4-wheelers and spending time with his family, friends, and dogs.
On the night of December 13, 2020, Nicholas Pike was found with a gunshot wound in the parking lot of a shopping center on Burlington Road in Whitsett. Guilford County deputies responded to the scene around 11:20 p.m. and found Nicholas with serious injuries. He was taken to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The investigation revealed that Nicholas was shot in the parking lot, and the incident was classified as a homicide.
Yanford Togba, a 23-year-old male, was arrested and charged with the shooting death of Nicholas Pike. Togba faced charges of homicide and discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle inflicting serious injury. The Guilford County Sheriff's Office conducted the investigation and urged anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.
Nicholas Pike's death was a significant loss to his family and community. He is survived by his parents, Kerry Len Pike II and Shelby Leigh Simmons Pike, as well as his siblings, grandparents, and numerous other relatives. The funeral service for Nicholas was held on December 21, 2020, at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel, followed by a burial at Alamance Memorial Park. The family received friends and well-wishers at Integrity Church in Burlington.
