Oarmonz Dikal Days, a 23-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on March 11, 2021, in Wilmington, North Carolina. The incident occurred in the afternoon when officers from the Wilmington Police Department responded to a ShotSpotter alert at North Sixth and Nixon Street. Upon arrival, they found Days in critical condition, having been shot multiple times. He was immediately transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The investigation into Days' death revealed that he had been shot four times in the back while conversing with a friend. Video surveillance captured a man dressed in all white approaching Days from behind and opening fire. Witnesses on the scene and a Facebook post showing the suspect in the same outfit identified Adrian Point as the shooter. Point, a 32-year-old male, attempted to evade law enforcement by shaving his head and traveling to Latta, South Carolina, shortly after the shooting.
Five days after the incident, Point was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. In February 2024, he pled guilty to these charges in New Hanover County Superior Court. Judge Frank Jones sentenced Point to a minimum of 24 years and a maximum of 29 years in prison. The minimum sentence held particular significance for Days' family, as he was just three days shy of his 24th birthday when he was killed.
The community was deeply affected by Days' death, with flowers left at the scene and efforts made to clean up the area where he was shot. The police could not confirm if the shooting was gang-related and declined to comment further due to the ongoing investigation. The Wilmington Police Department continues to encourage anyone with information about the crime to come forward.
