Rasheed Phillips, a 23-year-old Black male, was found dead on May 12, 2021, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He was discovered in the driver's seat of a Chrysler minivan that had struck a house on Everena Avenue. Phillips had been shot multiple times, and his death was ruled a homicide. The incident occurred shortly after midnight, and the police were dispatched to the scene following reports of a vehicle striking a residence.
The Fayetteville Police Department's Homicide Unit launched an investigation into Phillips' death. Detectives identified Ali Abdul-Malik, a 27-year-old Black male, as a person of interest in the case. Abdul-Malik was believed to have information regarding the shooting and was sought by the authorities for questioning.
The investigation revealed that Phillips had been shot multiple times before his vehicle crashed into the house. The police received a second call reporting gunshots in the area of Regan Avenue and Everena Drive. Upon arrival, officers found bullet holes in the driver's door of the minivan, further confirming that Phillips had been shot while driving.
As of now, there have been no arrests or charges filed in connection with Rasheed Phillips' death. The investigation remains ongoing, and the Fayetteville Police Department continues to seek information from the public to help solve the case.
