Laquarius Devontanious Dove, a 28-year-old African American man, was tragically shot and killed outside his home in Fayetteville, North Carolina, on March 8, 2025. Dove, a father of three and a technician for Mercedes-Benz, had just returned home from work when the incident occurred. Cumberland County deputies responded to a call on Pebble Drive in Fayetteville and discovered Dove in his car, suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Family members described Dove as a loving husband and father, deeply cherished by those who knew him. His aunt, Natisha Webb, expressed her devastation, stating that Dove was adored by everyone and had no known enemies. She recalled receiving the heartbreaking call about his death, describing the moment as overwhelming and filled with anguish. Webb and other family members have since been seeking justice for Dove, emphasizing that his life was senselessly taken away.
Authorities have been investigating the case, and on April 2, 2025, the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office announced that they were looking to question 40-year-old William Orlando Mills Jr. in connection with the shooting. Mills, a Fayetteville resident, is believed to have pertinent information regarding the incident. The Sheriff's Office has urged anyone with knowledge of Mills' whereabouts or details about the case to come forward. Multiple 911 calls were made on the night of the shooting, with some callers reporting hearing multiple gunshots and others stating they had fled the scene after witnessing the violence. Two individuals who remained with Dove confirmed that he had succumbed to his injuries.
As the investigation continues, Dove’s family remains steadfast in their pursuit of answers. They have described him as a man with big dreams, dedicated to his family and career. A GoFundMe page was created to support funeral expenses, highlighting Dove’s role as a devoted father to his three young sons. His loved ones continue to mourn his loss, remembering him as a kind-hearted individual whose life was unjustly cut short. Authorities are still working to gather more information, and the community has been encouraged to assist in bringing justice to Dove’s family.
