Michael Anthony McKoy, a 27-year-old African American male from Fayetteville, NC, tragically lost his life on June 3, 2021. He was found suffering from a gunshot wound along the 600 block of Banner Elk Drive, off Old Bunce Road. Despite being transported to the hospital, he was later pronounced dead. The incident occurred in a mobile home park, and it was determined that McKoy did not reside there.
The investigation into McKoy's death quickly identified two persons of interest: Damian Levon McNeil, a 36-year-old male, and Natasha Nicole Ricks, a 25-year-old female. Both individuals were believed to have information regarding the shooting. McNeil was last seen driving a 2008 Mercury Mountaineer, and efforts were made to locate both him and Ricks.
On June 9, 2021, Damian Levon McNeil was arrested by Fayetteville Police. He was charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. McNeil had prior convictions in Cumberland County for robbery with a dangerous weapon in 2009, possession of a weapon in 2015, and speeding to elude arrest in 2015. He was held in the Cumberland County jail without bail.
The investigation into McKoy's death revealed that the shooting was not a random act. Detectives continued to gather information and evidence to build their case.
