Antonio Luis Quinones, a 26-year-old male from Raleigh, North Carolina, tragically lost his life on July 1, 2021. The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Raleigh Boulevard, where Quinones was involved in a shooting and subsequent car crash. According to reports, Quinones was driving a vehicle that struck the back of a dually truck. A 911 caller, who witnessed the crash, rushed to check on the passengers and found Quinones with his head down, not moving, after being shot.
The caller also reported that the passenger of Quinones' vehicle pulled a gun on them but narrowly missed.
Following the incident, Quinones was taken to the hospital with serious injuries but unfortunately succumbed to his wounds. The Raleigh police identified the shooter as Darius Lamar Watson, a 27-year-old male, who was subsequently charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a felon in connection with Quinones' death. Watson's arrest was made on July 9, 2021, and he was linked to the shooting through warrants.
The investigation revealed that the crash and shooting occurred after Quinones' vehicle crossed over U.S. Highway 64 at the stoplight before Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The driver of the dually truck fled the scene after hearing gunshots, and the 911 caller, who was also shot at, expressed their relief at surviving the incident.
Antonio Luis Quinones' death has left a significant impact on his family and friends, who mourned his loss and paid their respects during his funeral service held on July 9, 2021, at the C.A. Haywood, Sr. Memorial Chapel in Raleigh. The service was followed by his interment at Carolina Biblical Gardens in Garner, North Carolina.
