James Edward Davis, a 53-year-old African American man from Rowland, North Carolina, was found dead on the evening of July 23, 2021. Police responded to a report of a shooting and discovered Davis on the curb at the intersection of South Hickory and McCormick streets in Rowland. He was immediately transported by helicopter to Florence McLeod Hospital in South Carolina, where he was pronounced dead.
