Yulonda Basica Hollis, a 49-year-old African American woman, tragically lost her life on August 31, 2021, in Kannapolis, North Carolina. The Kannapolis Police Department responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting in the 900 block of Packard Avenue, near the intersection with Ford Street, just before 4 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found Yulonda Basica Hollis suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite the efforts of paramedics, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation quickly identified 26-year-old Demontrel Deonta Murphy as the primary suspect in the shooting. Murphy, who was known to have a relationship with Hollis' daughter, was arrested without incident by High Point police officers. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and transferred to the Cabarrus County Jail.

Yulonda was educated in the Cabarrus County School System and attended A.L. Brown High School. She was formerly employed with FedEx.
