On the morning of February 19, 2025, tragedy struck outside the Cabarrus County Social Services office in Kannapolis, North Carolina. Yamilaine Sosa-Julian, a 19-year-old Hispanic female, was shot and killed alongside her mother, Maria Julian-Pichardo, a 45-year-old Hispanic female. The suspect, Rafael Lopez, a 51-year-old Hispanic male, was identified as Julian-Pichardo’s husband and Sosa-Julian’s stepfather. Authorities confirmed that the incident was a domestic-related murder-suicide.
