According to the authorities, McDaniel fled the scene in a stolen 2013 Chevrolet Impala, which was later located by sheriff's deputies in Dillon County, South Carolina. McDaniel was apprehended on September 5, 2021, after being spotted by an off-duty Rowland police officer. He was found hiding in a home along NC Highway 710, about five miles north of Rowland.
