Rodney Rhoades, a 46-year-old man from High Point, NC, was tragically shot and killed on February 7, 2022. Rhoades was in a vehicle with a friend who was using an ATM at a convenience store parking lot when two armed men approached them and demanded money. Rhoades was shot in the chest during the altercation and pronounced dead at the scene.
High Point police identified two suspects in the case. One of the suspects, a 14-year-old juvenile, was charged with first-degree murder.
The juvenile was arrested on unrelated charges during an incident at another location. The second suspect remained at large, and police continued their investigation to locate him.
Rhoades' family and friends mourned his loss, describing him as a caring and supportive brother who always looked out for others. His younger brother, Joseph Stein, expressed the pain and grief the family experienced, having lost another brother to violence the previous year. Stein called for increased efforts to reduce crime and improve security in the community.
