Franklin Lee Hamby, a 48-year-old man from Roan Mountain, NC, tragically passed away on March 12, 2022. He was born on October 30, 1973, in Elizabethton and worked as a construction worker. Hamby was known for his love of camping and fishing. He is survived by his mother, Alicia Gray, his father, Norman Frank Hamby, his sister, Misty Dawn Ramey, and several other family members.
On the night of his death, Hamby was found at a residence on Old Highway 19E with a gunshot wound.
Emergency Medical Services pronounced him dead at the scene. According to the Carter County Sheriff's Office, witnesses reported that a domestic incident led to the shooting. A person of interest has been identified, and the investigation is ongoing. Officials have stated that there is no danger to the public.
