Lee Otis Evans Jr., an 18-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on May 7, 2022, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The incident occurred around 10:35 p.m. outside an apartment complex in the 100 block of Treetop Drive. According to the autopsy report, Evans Jr. was shot multiple times, including in the arm, torso, and twice in the chest with a .40-caliber handgun.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Evans Jr.'s death led to the arrest of Khailil Tyheed Johnson Tamir, a 19-year-old male, who was charged with first-degree murder. Tamir had been in custody since August on unrelated burglary charges and was additionally booked on the murder warrant in December. He is currently being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center with no bond.
Evans Jr.'s death was one of six homicides in Fayetteville in May 2022, including another fatal shooting on the same day.
