Daquarius Malik Jackson, a 26-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on May 12, 2022, in Charlotte, North Carolina. The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of Avalon Avenue and Glenwood Drive in the Enderly Park neighborhood. Officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon and found Daquarius suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite paramedics' efforts, Daquarius was pronounced dead at the scene.
Daquarius was known for his smile, great sense of humor, and being a devoted father to his two children, Daquarius Malik Jackson Jr. and Datayvia Jackson. He had a heart of gold and was deeply loved by his family and friends. His untimely death left a void in the lives of those who knew him.
The investigation into Daquarius's death led to the arrest of two suspects, both of whom were his friends. Johnny Williams, a 29-year-old African American male, was the first suspect arrested on August 17, 2022. He was charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, shooting into occupied property inflicting serious bodily injury, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Johnny remains in Mecklenburg County jail without bond.
The second suspect, Antonio Tomkins, a 31-year-old African American male, was arrested on August 31, 2022. Antonio was charged with murder, felony conspiracy, and discharging a weapon causing serious injury. Both suspects were friends with Daquarius, and their betrayal added another layer of tragedy to the case.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding Daquarius's death. The community remains in shock and mourning over the loss of a young father whose life was cut short by violence.
