Kyyri De Ji Marquis Doggette, a 25-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on August 8, 2017, in Charlotte, North Carolina. On that fateful evening, officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department discovered Doggette inside a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds. The incident occurred around 7:18 p.m. on the 6700 block of E. Independence Blvd. Despite the efforts of emergency medical personnel, Doggette was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following a multi-month investigation, CMPD detectives identified and arrested Andre Earl Brooks, a 23-year-old male, in connection with Doggette's murder. Brooks was charged with murder, shooting into occupied property, inflicting serious injury, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Brooks had a history of criminal activity, which contributed to the probable cause for his arrest. Additionally, on January 23, CMPD arrested a second suspect, Layfayette Burney, a 31-year-old male, who was charged with aiding and abetting in connection with Doggette's death.

The plea deal resulted in a reduced sentence for Brooks, who had originally faced more severe charges. Doggette's murder marked the 55th homicide in Charlotte for the year 2017.
