Justin Dewayne Goodman, a 29-year-old man from Mocksville, North Carolina, tragically lost his life on June 26, 2022. On that fateful night, Davie County Communications received a 911 call from a woman who reported that someone was shooting at her. The dispatcher heard a loud disturbance over the phone, but no one responded after that. When deputies arrived at the scene on Junction Road, they found Justin Dewayne Goodman, a 29-year-old white male, dead in the front yard.
Inside the home, they discovered the body of 23-year-old Savannah Lyn Anglin, a white female. Two young children were also found inside the home, unharmed. The children were placed in the custody of Davie County Social Services.
The Davie County Sheriff's Office quickly identified a suspect in the double homicide. Anthony LaQuane Brooks, a 31-year-old Black male, was wanted for the shooting deaths of Justin Dewayne Goodman and Savannah Lyn Anglin. Brooks was described as 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 260 pounds. He was known to frequent the Cooleemee area of Davie County, as well as areas in Salisbury and Rowan County. Law enforcement officials considered Brooks to be armed and dangerous and urged the public to contact the sheriff's office with any information regarding his whereabouts.
The investigation into the murders of Justin Dewayne Goodman and Savannah Lyn Anglin led to the issuance of warrants for Brooks' arrest on two counts of homicide. The Davie County Sheriff's Office, with the assistance of the public, the Rowan County Sheriff's Office, the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation , and the Lenoir Police Department, eventually located and apprehended Brooks in Caldwell County. He was taken into custody without incident and held at the Davie County Detention Center without bond.
The tragic deaths of Justin Dewayne Goodman and Savannah Lyn Anglin left a lasting impact on their families and the community. Goodman, who was known for his love of motorcycles, dogs, and spending time with his family, was remembered as a hardworking and affectionate individual.
