Rakeem Demarko Holloway, a 27-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on September 8, 2022, in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Holloway was found with a gunshot wound to his chest and was initially taken to Wayne UNC Health Care for stabilization. Despite efforts to save him, he was airlifted to ECU Medical Center for advanced treatment but succumbed to his injuries later that evening.
The Goldsboro Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division promptly initiated a homicide investigation, with crime scene specialists and criminal investigators working together to uncover the circumstances surrounding his death.
The investigation revealed that the shooting occurred at approximately 5:55 p.m. on September 8, 2022, at 905 South Slocumb Street in Goldsboro. The ShotSpotter detection system corroborated this time and location. On September 12, 2022, a warrant for an open count of murder was secured against 32-year-old Shadell Barksdale, also of Goldsboro. Barksdale was apprehended on November 3, 2022, by officers from the Goldsboro Police Department, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service Task Force and the North Carolina Department of Public Safety Probation/Parole. He was taken into custody in the 600 block of South Claiborne Street and transported to the Wayne County Magistrate's Office, where he was served with the murder warrant and a misdemeanor probation violation.
Barksdale received no bond for the murder charge and a $5,000 secured bond for the probation violation. His first court appearance was scheduled for November 4, 2022. The investigation into Holloway's death continues, with authorities working diligently to bring justice to the victim and his family.
