On June 7, 2024, at approximately 1:34 p.m., 18-year-old Javon Adair Langston was fatally shot near the entrance of a Food Lion grocery store located at 1805 E. Ash Street in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Responding officers from the Goldsboro Police Department found Langston suffering from a gunshot wound and administered life-saving measures; however, he was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Langston and a male suspect had engaged in a verbal altercation prior to the shooting. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived. Authorities appealed to the public for information to aid in identifying and apprehending the individual responsible for Langston's death.
On June 27, 2024, at approximately 6:45 p.m., officers arrested a 17-year-old male suspect in the 300 block of Myers Avenue in Goldsboro. Due to his age, the suspect's identity was withheld. A juvenile petition was secured, charging him with one count of murder. The suspect was subsequently transported to the Pitt County Detention Center for secured custody.
Langston, born on February 23, 2006, was remembered by family and friends for his sweet spirit and joyful personality. He had recently obtained his high school diploma from Wayne Community College in 2024. His untimely death has left the Goldsboro community mourning the loss of a young life with a promising future.
