Joshua Tremaine Miles, a 33-year-old African American male, tragically passed away on October 15, 2022, in Hickory, North Carolina. Joshua, known affectionately as "Josh," was born on September 29, 1989, in Forsyth County. He was the son of Dennis Ray Williams of Gastonia and Crystal Dawn Miles of Hickory. Joshua was a member of Victory Temple Worship Center in Lincolnton and worked at JB Hunt in Conover.
He enjoyed coaching football, playing Xbox, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends.
On the morning of October 15, 2022, Long View Police Officers were called to a residence on 515 26th St. SW, where they found Joshua Tremaine Miles deceased. The investigation quickly identified 31-year-old Antwaine Derrell Beatty, also an African American male, as the suspect in the fatal shooting. Beatty was charged with murder and turned himself in to Long View Police on October 16, 2022. He is currently being held without bond in the Catawba County Detention Center. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is assisting Long View Police in the ongoing investigation.
Joshua's death has left a significant void in the lives of his family and friends. He is survived by his parents, Dennis Ray Williams and Crystal Dawn Miles, his children Zimir Mauney, Josiah Miles, Kaleah Miles, London Miles, Noelle Miles, and Nova Miles, his siblings Daisha Williams, Christina Williams, Quantaisha Miles, Cierra Hayes, Kaysia A. Allen, and Preston D. Miles, as well as numerous step-siblings, nieces, nephews, and other family members.
The community has been deeply affected by Joshua's untimely death, and his family has received an outpouring of support. Memorials have been made to his children's education fund, and a homegoing service was held on October 22, 2022, at Maiden Chapel Baptist Church in Maiden, North Carolina.
