On the night of October 3, 2025, the back parking lot behind Windy City Sundries at 1129 2nd Street NE in Hickory filled with the flashing blue of patrol cars after reports of gunfire. Officers arrived around 11:13 p.m. to find Corbin Noah Davis, 24, a white man from Hickory, mortally wounded; he was pronounced dead at the scene. A second victim, 23-year-old Tanner Allen Hutchinson of Hickory, was taken to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
