Joshua Ryan Hunt, a 28-year-old man from Red Springs, North Carolina, was found dead on November 29, 2022, in a ditch between two homes in Maxton, NC. The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene at around 11:25 p.m. and pronounced Hunt dead at the scene. The investigation into his death led to the arrest of three individuals: Nakia Gage Locklear, 18; Shawn Tobin Locklear Jr., 19; and a 16-year-old juvenile.
All three suspects were charged with first-degree murder, felony conspiracy to robbery with a dangerous weapon, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle. Nakia Locklear and Shawn Locklear were also charged with two counts of attempted murder. The juvenile is being held in the Cumberland Regional Juvenile Detention Center, while Nakia and Shawn Locklear are in the custody of the Robeson County Detention Center with no bond.
The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office, along with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, is investigating the case. Sheriff Burnis Wilkins stated that these senseless acts of violence continue in and around Robeson County, and those responsible for such crimes must be held accountable.
