On December 22, 2022, Harold LeRoy Williams, a 33-year-old man from Roxboro, NC, was found dead in the street from multiple gunshot wounds. The incident occurred in the 800 block of Lyle Street after Roxboro Police responded to a call about suspicious activity around 5 p.m. Williams, who was African American, was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds, and the police quickly launched an investigation.
Several hours after finding Williams' body, Roxboro Police and Person County Sheriff's
deputies arrested Keavon Royster, 45, for first-degree murder. Royster was taken into custody within hours of the homicide, thanks to phone calls from the public that helped locate him. Royster is being held in the Person County Jail under no bond, and police are continuing to investigate the case to determine a motive.
In addition to the murder charge, Royster was also charged with attempted murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, and possession of a firearm by a felon in connection with a separate incident that occurred on December 17, 2022. This incident involved an attempted murder of a Roxboro mother on Garrett Street.
