Patrolman Julius Gene Courville, aged 43, was shot and killed on August 26, 1978, while attempting to quell a domestic dispute in Henderson, Louisiana. Courville, who had only served with the Henderson Police Department for one day, was shot in the head by the suspect during the altercation. His partner and he were both fired upon, but Courville was the one fatally wounded. The suspect was subsequently arrested and found guilty of first-degree murder.
