Dequan Michael Sullivan, a 17-year-old male, tragically lost his life on Thursday, December 26, 2019, in his hometown of Thibodaux, Louisiana. The young man, known affectionately as 'Quan,' was the victim of gun violence. A native and resident of the city, his sudden death left a void in the community and within his family, which includes his parents, Monica Stepter Thompson and Derrick Sullivan, numerous siblings, and his own young daughter, Avah Arielle Sullivan.
The investigation into
his death culminated in the arrests of three men in March 2021. Thibodaux Police charged 23-year-old Joshua Birdis, 19-year-old Brennan Mitchell Jr., and 20-year-old Wilfred Mitchell with second-degree murder in connection with Sullivan's death. At the time detectives secured the warrants, they discovered that all three suspects were already incarcerated in neighboring jurisdictions on unrelated homicide charges.
Following the issuance of the warrants for the murder of Dequan Sullivan, the three men were transferred to the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex. There, they awaited trial for their alleged involvement in the teenager's death. Authorities did not release a motive for the killing, citing the pending court proceedings.
