In the quiet town of Thibodaux, Louisiana, the night of September 25, 2013, was shattered by the sound of gunfire. When police responded to reports of shots fired in the 100 block of Iris Street just before 10 p.m., they discovered a grim scene. Inside a car were the bodies of two young men, both of whom had been fatally shot. The victims were identified as 19-year-old Tre Scott and 26-year-old Jordy Williams, both residents of Thibodaux.
The investigation into the double homicide led to
the swift arrest of 19-year-old Alfred Starks, also from Thibodaux. He was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Scott and Williams. Starks was subsequently held at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on a $5 million bond. Another man, 20-year-old Brian Jones of Thibodaux, was later arrested and charged as a principal to second-degree murder.
Brian Jones faced a trial for his alleged involvement in the killings. Prosecutors offered him a plea deal that would have resulted in a 20-year prison sentence, which he rejected. After nearly four hours of deliberation, a jury found Brian Jones not guilty of the charges against him. The alleged shooter, Alfred Starks, was also facing the possibility of life in prison as he awaited his trial.
