Deputy Sheriff Robert V. Taylor, aged 45, was a six-year veteran of the Union Parish Sheriff's Department in Louisiana. On the evening of September 16, 1978, Deputy Taylor went to the residence of Roger Daniel Bryan to serve an arrest warrant. The situation escalated when Bryan produced a handgun and shot Deputy Taylor during their struggle.
