Christopher Goodwill was a 33-year-old man serving as a deputy sheriff in Webster Parish, Louisiana, when his life ended in violence on May 28, 1901. Near midnight, word of a murder suspect’s whereabouts drew him into the kind of tense pursuit that could turn deadly in an instant.
