Deputy Sheriff Christopher Goodwill, aged 33, of the Webster Parish Sheriff's Office in Louisiana, tragically lost his life on May 28, 1901. He was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a man wanted for murder. The suspect opened fire on Deputy Goodwill with a .41 caliber revolver, fatally wounding him in the chest. The assailant managed to flee the scene, but his body was discovered in a nearby lake the following week.
