On the night of Saturday, November 29, 2025, the Mooretown neighborhood of Shreveport, Louisiana, became the focus of a violent investigation. Officers with the Shreveport Police Department were dispatched around 11:50 p.m. to the area of Illinois Avenue and Broadway Avenue after receiving reports of shots fired. Upon arrival at the initial scene, patrol units discovered an unoccupied vehicle but found no shooting victim, prompting them to expand their search to the surrounding streets.
A short time later, authorities located a body lying in the roadway several blocks away in the 5600 block of Lucille Street, near the intersection with Murvon Street. The victim was identified as Eugene Tyrone Watkins, a 53-year-old male. First responders from the Shreveport Fire Department arrived to render aid, but he was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office subsequently confirmed his identity through fingerprint comparison, recording the incident as the city's 36th homicide of the year.
Witnesses provided investigators with chilling details regarding the moments leading up to the discovery. A bystander reported hearing gunshots and seeing a person lying in the street, followed by the sight of a white Dodge Challenger running over the victim. The vehicle then fled the scene. While the coroner’s office withheld the specific cause of death pending further examination, police treated the case as a homicide and launched a search for the driver involved.
As of late December 2025, no arrests had been publicly announced in connection with the death. Detectives continued to seek information regarding the white Dodge Challenger and urged the public to contact Caddo Crime Stoppers with any leads. Following the tragedy, funeral services for Watkins were arranged at Precious Memories Mortuary, with a graveside ceremony held on December 20 at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, where friends and family gathered to mourn a man remembered for his loving nature.
