Sergeant Warren Joseph Broussard, a 40-year-old male of Caucasian ethnicity, was shot and killed on June 21, 1988, while questioning two suspects about a residential burglary in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Broussard, a highly decorated Vietnam War veteran, had served with the Baton Rouge City Police Department for 15 years. He was visiting his grandparents' house, which had been burglarized the previous day, when a neighbor informed him about two males casing a house in the neighborhood.
