Barton Joseph Granier, a 37-year-old male deputy sheriff of the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office in Louisiana, tragically lost his life on January 27, 1996. Deputy Granier was shot and killed by a robbery suspect during a struggle at around 2:00 am. The incident occurred after a brief chase, during which the suspect attempted to climb over a fence.
