Sherman Ray Walker, a 32-year-old African American detective lieutenant with the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office in Louisiana, was fatally shot on November 6, 1984. Walker was ambushed in front of his home on Little Emilie Street in Garyville as he entered his unmarked patrol car. He was shot multiple times in the back by three suspects, who used shotguns in the attack.
