A nine-year veteran of the New Orleans Police Department, Detective Joseph C. Thomas, a 31-year-old male, tragically lost his life in the line of duty. On July 18, 1996, he was part of a team executing a narcotics search warrant at a residence located at 1118 St. Andrew Street. The operation took a fatal turn as officers made their entry into the house.
