Detective Charles Randal "Randy" Smith, age 32, was a dedicated officer with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Department in Louisiana. On April 16, 2003, Detective Smith was shot and killed while attempting to serve a search warrant and arrest warrant on a man who had escaped from the parish jail.
