On December 11, 2003, Spencer A. "Funk" Smith Jr., a 28-year-old African American male from New Orleans, Louisiana, passed away at 9:36 p.m. He was the son of Spencer Smith Sr. and Wanda Brooks, and the father of Spencer Smith III, Scottie Beverly, Shakita Marshall, and Samaj Robinson. His grandparents were Rita Mae Smith and Aline Francis Brooks. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on December 17, 2003, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, followed by interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
