Detective Terry Lee Melancon Jr., aged 31, was a dedicated officer of the Baton Rouge Police Department in Louisiana. On August 10, 2005, while executing a search warrant at a drug dealer's home, Detective Melancon and two other officers were met with gunfire as they forced their way into the residence. Tragically, Detective Melancon was shot and killed in the ensuing exchange of gunfire, and the suspect was also killed. The two other officers were wounded but survived the incident.
